Rep. Tarver blends a sharp legal mind, proven leadership in government, and heartfelt devotion to both family and community. As a committed father, a passionate lawyer, and an impactful legislator, he continues to elevate South Side neighborhoods by crafting policies grounded in justice, opportunity, and accountability.
Grounded in lived experience, Representative Tarver’s vision is one of restoration and empowerment. Whether fighting to streamline regulations for small business owners, sponsoring legislation to provide financial relief, or seeking greater justice in criminal law, his efforts reflect an unwavering dedication to ensuring that neighborhoods—regardless of zip code—have access to education, economic opportunity, and fair representation.
Since joining the Illinois House, Rep. Tarver has emerged as a legislative strategist and leader. Notably, he spearheaded the long‑overdue remapping of the Illinois Supreme Court districts—the first in nearly sixty years—to ensure fair representation across the state.
He serves as Assistant Majority Leader. He chairs the Revenue and Finance Committee. He also holds influential roles as a member of the Executive Committee and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. Rep. Tarver also is a member of the Judiciary (Civil), Elections and Ethics, Energy and Environment, Consumer Protection and International Trade and Tourism Committees.
A graduate of Iowa State University (B.S., 2003) and the University of Iowa College of Law (J.D., 2006), Tarver built a distinguished career as a trial attorney, representing clients in personal injury and civil rights cases.
Rep. Tarver’s most important title is “Daddy” to his amazing daughter C.J. who is well known in Springfield as the “real” Rep. Tarver.
